Mobile Experience

Mobile Experience

Every page in MTG Codex is designed to work on a phone or tablet, not just tolerate it. The scanner is the most obvious example. It's built from the ground up for mobile, but the collection, search, deck builder, and queue all have mobile-specific layouts that don't feel like shrunken desktop versions.

Navigation on Small Screens

The bottom navigation bar keeps three things one tap away: Search, Collection, and Decks. Next to them is a More button that opens a drawer with the rest: Messages, Alerts, Scan / Queue, Wiki, and Settings. Play appears there greyed out rather than hidden, because knowing it exists is worth more than a link that opens a screen a phone cannot show.

The deck builder is the one place that's read-only on a phone. You can browse a deck in list or grid view, tap into any card, and check your stats, but editing needs a desktop.

Filters on Mobile

Pages with sidebar filters: Collection, Search, Queue, show a filter icon in the header on small screens. Tap it to open a bottom sheet with all the filter controls. You won't lose your place in the results when you open or close the filter panel.

Phone-to-Desktop Scanning (Recommended for Bulk)

The most efficient way to catalog a large collection is the phone-to-desktop workflow:

1

Open the Queue page on your desktop

2

Click Connect Phone in the sidebar and scan the QR code with your phone

3

Your phone opens the Scanner, already linked to your session

4

Flip through your cards and tap to scan. They appear on your desktop in real time

5

Approve or reject from the big screen while you keep scanning

The QR code dialog closes automatically once a connection is made. If the scanner disconnects, just rescan the QR code to reconnect.

All-Mobile Workflow

No desktop handy? Everything still works:

1

Open the Queue on your phone and tap "Scan Cards" to open the scanner

2

Scan your cards. They go into the queue on the same device

3

Swipe right to approve, left to reject

4

Approved cards go into your collection immediately

The queue's Auto-Approve setting is especially useful for all-mobile scanning, turn it on for high-confidence cards so you only stop to review the ones the scanner wasn't sure about.

Things That Work Well on Mobile

Scanner: Full-screen camera with large capture button and easy-to-reach controls

Queue: 1–2 column grid with swipe gesture support

Collection: Full filtering, tile/list view, editing, tags

Search: Filter sheet, responsive grid, wishlist sidebar accessible via icon

Deck Builder: Read-only on a phone: browse the list or grid, tap into any card, check the stats. Editing needs a desktop.
