What is The MTG Codex?
The MTG Codex is a free web-based Magic: The Gathering collection manager. It scans cards with your phone camera, tracks a collection against a database of more than 541,000 printings with daily pricing from Scryfall, builds and validates decks across six formats, and organizes everything into color-coded binders.
How does the AI card scanner work?
Point your phone camera at a card and capture. Google Gemini's vision model reads the name, set, collector number, and foil status, and the match appears on your desktop queue in real time for review before anything is added to your collection. There is also an auto-scan mode that captures on its own as you flip through a stack.
Is The MTG Codex free?
Yes. Creating an account, cataloging your collection, building decks, and card scanning are all free with no limits and no card required. Card scanning in particular is unlimited for everyone. Two optional AI features, deck suggestions and Pro Analysis, include a free allowance per account, after which they require a paid tier.
Can I import my collection from Moxfield or Manabox?
Yes. The MTG Codex imports CSV exports from Moxfield, Manabox, Archidekt, Dragon Shield, EDHREC, Untapped.gg, and any CSV containing Scryfall IDs. Open the Collection page and choose Import CSV.
What deck formats are supported?
Commander (100-card singleton, with partner and Choose a Background detection), Standard, Modern, Pioneer, and Legacy (60-card minimum, four copies max), plus Casual with no restrictions. Card counts, copy limits, color identity, and format legality are all validated as you build.
Does the deck builder know what I already own?
Yes, and that is largely the point. Every card in the builder shows whether you own it, and deck suggestions prioritize cards you own that are not already committed to another deck, so what it suggests is something you can sleeve up tonight rather than something you would have to buy.
