Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using MTG Codex (“the Service”), you agree to these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree, do not use the Service. We may update these Terms; continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.

2. Description of Service

MTG Codex is a personal collection management and community tool for Magic: The Gathering players. Features include collection tracking, deck building, card scanning, trade interest signaling, and direct messaging between users. MTG Codex is an independent fan project and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Wizards of the Coast or Hasbro.

3. Eligibility & Accounts

  • You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
  • You may not create multiple accounts to circumvent bans or restrictions.
  • You may not share your account with others.

4. User Content & Conduct

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • Post content that is abusive, harassing, defamatory, obscene, or hateful.
  • Impersonate any person or entity.
  • Spam other users through the messaging or trade-interest features.
  • Scrape, crawl, or otherwise harvest data from the Service in an automated fashion without prior written permission.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or its infrastructure.
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations.

We reserve the right to remove any content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules, at our sole discretion.

5. Social Features

Social features — including public profiles, deck comments, direct messages, and trade interest signals — are optional and available only to users who opt in by setting a public display name and enabling a public profile. You are solely responsible for any content you post or send through these features.

6. Intellectual Property

Magic: The Gathering card names, images, and game terminology are the property of Wizards of the Coast. Card data and imagery used by MTG Codex is sourced from the Scryfall API under its terms of use. MTG Codex does not claim ownership of any third-party intellectual property.

Your collection data and personal content remain yours. By using the Service, you grant MTG Codex a limited, non-exclusive license to store and display your content solely to provide the Service.

7. Privacy

We collect only the information necessary to provide the Service (email address, password hash, collection data). We do not sell your data to third parties. Card price data is fetched from public sources and is not linked to your personal identity. You may delete your account and all associated data at any time from your profile settings.

8. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We do not guarantee uptime, data retention, or accuracy of card pricing information. In no event shall MTG Codex be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Service.

9. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate any account for violation of these Terms, without notice, at our discretion.

10. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms periodically. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of material changes. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
